Eight years of Botwiki, and 2,000 bots

Happy birthday, Botwiki!

📅 July 15, 2023 in

By the time I joined Twitter’s now-disbanded Twitter Developer Insiders program, Elon Musk’s hostile takeover of the company was already looming on the horizon. I was a bit in denial at the time. Musk himself was trying to get out of the deal. What were the chances of it going through? And even if it did, how bad could it really get?

Well, now we know the answer to both of these questions.

But everything that’s happened with Twitter over the past year also opened up an opportunity to rebuild the social web, for people, and creative bots.

I myself have been contributing to this movement, including through Botwiki, with new tutorials, and new bots that I’ve made, and actively participating in the fediverse.

@botwiki happy 5 years anniversary!

I’m very excited about what Botwiki’s ninth year will bring, and I hope you’ll be here to celebrate it with me.

Oh, and in case you missed it, Botwiki just reached 2,000 bots 🎉 (Botwiki hit the 1,000 bots milestone back in October 2018.)

botwiki.org now has 2,000 bots!
